Methylenetetrahydrofolate Reductase (MTHFR)

MTHFR is a very important enzyme for producing various B-vitamins in your body. If you have a genetic variant you will be predisposed to having problems with “so-called” methylation pathways.

Two relatively common genetic variants are the C677T and the A1298C genotypes.
If you have one of these genes and are unaware of it, this can lead to many health problems including heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, cancer, dementia, chronic pain, chronic fatigue, birth defects and many others. A simple genetic test can determine whether or not you have an MTHFR variant. If you do, you will need to supplement with specific B vitamins (and other nutraceuticals) and adhere to strict dietary practices.

Treating this condition requires expertise because just taking random B-Vitamins can lead to methylation disturbances and other metabolic imbalances. Dr. Michael Rothman at MDWellness has extensive experience with Methylenetetrahydrofolate Reductase (MTHFR) genetic variants. He will apply a Metabolically Directed approach to selecting which B vitamins (and other minerals and co-factors) you need in order to facilitate your treatment.  Contact the MDWellness practice for  a consultation in treating Methylenetetrahydrofolate Reductase naturally.
